In fact Santa Croce can offer an authentic Florentine feeling being at the same time just 500 meters away from Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Vecchio the city Town Hall.
The Santa Croce district is arguably one of the most beautiful areas in the historical center of Florence. Not only for its monuments but
also for its small shops and restaurants which, especially in the evening time, make the small streets of the district pleasantly alive.
Santa Croce church is certainly the main attraction. Here are buried some illustrious personalities like Galileo and Michelangelo.
The square in front of the church is often a place for events and fares, the most important no doubts being the Calcio Storico (Ancient Football) which is held every year in June. During this period, the square literally turn into a sand arena surrounded by stands.
